This week, I was inspired by a webinar featuring Arthur Gautier, Associate Professor at ESSEC Business School and lead of the ESSEC Philanthropy Chair, and Hanna Stähle, Head of Foresight and Innovation at Philea - Philanthropy Europe Association.
They engaged participants in a thought-provoking discussion on systems change and philanthropy.
I took these takeaways:
1. Systems change, and trust-based philanthropy can be seen as evolving manifestations of philanthropy in its quest to redefine itself and its impact.
2. Practitioners in the philanthropic sector are under relatively less pressure to learn and adopt new practices than those in the private sector.
3. Changing practices in philanthropy takes time, but we are increasingly realising that systems change offers a promising way forward for solving problems sustainably.
4. Experimentation and promoting training in the philanthropic sector are effective ways to change mindsets and traditional practices.
